And the story is genuinely so good too. The spicy stuff doesn’t come until right at the very end, but when you think about everything that happens leading up to that point, it makes it hit so much harder. I was literally like, “FINALLY.”

Honestly, you won’t regret reading this, so if you can, please don’t even read my review. Just go read it first. LOL. I’m seriously blown away by how the author managed to create such an immersive story in such a short two-volume series. Hats off to them.

I’ve seen some reviews mentioning that they weren’t totally happy with the illustrations in the second volume, but personally, it didn’t bother me at all. I can understand wishing certain things had been drawn differently, but at the end of the day, art is made by people, and nobody can make everything absolutely perfect.

I want to keep reading with a generous heart, because I’m only human too and I definitely can’t do everything perfectly myself. Sometimes it’s actually fun to fill in the little gaps with your imagination and just let your own mind complete the picture.

Anyway, I completely went off on a tangent there. My bad.

Iliya, an omega from a neighboring country, is sent to marry Khalid, the ten-year-old king of another kingdom. When this tiny ten-year-old boy first showed up, my brain was basically going, “Wait… WHAT?” But he is honestly so adorable.

And Iliya is absolutely gorgeous. Those eyelashes alone… the more lashes, the more beauty. That’s just science. LOL. So I totally get why Khalid would be drawn to him.

And honestly, for a ten-year-old, Khalid is surprisingly mature. He already has such a strong sense of justice, and he’s got this perfect mix of cool and adorable going on. He’s already such a lovable little king.

好きなイリヤ発表ハーリド pic.twitter.com/fxkKIEbreX
— 露久ふみ🥦🐯 (@tsuyuhisafumi) May 10, 2024

At the beginning, Iliya is undeniably beautiful, but there’s something dark and bitter about him, almost like he’s already given up on life and stopped expecting anything from it. His words are blunt and sometimes downright harsh, but underneath that rough exterior, he’s incredibly intelligent, thoughtful, and surprisingly caring. And honestly, the fact that he’s absolutely terrible at hiding how annoyed he is by anything troublesome makes him even more endearing. 😂

But after being separated from Khalid, we get to see a completely different side of Iliya, and this is where he really stole my heart.

Instead of letting his circumstances break him, Iliya chooses to use what he has to help the people around him. He teaches those struggling with poverty the skills they need to become self-sufficient, helps them find ways to earn money, and slowly gives them something they desperately need: a chance to build a better life for themselves.

And that’s what makes his character development hit so hard.

The Iliya we meet at the beginning seems like someone who has stopped caring about the world. But little by little, he becomes someone who cares deeply about other people, even when he has every reason to only look after himself.

He even says that he isn’t good with children, yet the way he looks at them is filled with such tenderness. He puts his people before himself and genuinely thinks about their future.

Seeing that transformation from a person who had given up on everything into someone who finds a reason to keep going and starts building a future for others was honestly beautiful.

Iliya doesn’t just become stronger. He learns to care again. And watching that happen is what makes him so incredibly lovable.

The scene where Iliya reunites with Khalid is SO damn cool… And then Khalid literally picks Iliya up in his arms?!
